This guardian figure is inspired by the Kurgan stelae—anthropomorphic stones carved and raised across the Eurasian steppe to honor the dead and guard ancestral lands. Female stelae, marked with arms and breasts, carried the memory of mothers, ancestors, and protectors whose presence endured across centuries. This gargoyle is modeled after a real balbal (Stelae) on Khortytsia Island, Ukraine. This balbal dates back to 1200 AD and was likely carved by the Cuman people. Formed in clay and embedded into Ozark Quartz, Jennifer rises from her stone base as if remembering her place in the lineage of guardians. Her watch has been long and loyal, and the earth has rewarded her by fusing her body with its own bedrock. • ~8” tall • Materials: Clay & Ozark Quartz • Hand-sculpted guardian sculpture

FAQ

Is this safe for... ?

KIDS: NO.

ANIMALS: NO.

Handle slowly and carefully. There are sharp fragments in this product.

What is the clay made of?

The clay is made with a blend of translucent Sculpey III, iron oxides for pigmentation, and natural pigmented fragments that were hand foraged and processed.

How do I sculpt with it?

Handle slowly and carefully. There are sharp fragments within.

Hand mix the polymer after unpackaging to rewarm the clay and aid in pliability.

To maximize the amount of fragments visible in your piece, roll the clay thin to get the most surface area possible. Use other medium beneath for maximum product use.

Shape your piece normally. Pay careful attention to the surface of your piece. Push the clay around the fragments at the surface of your clay to create the texture you'd like to see.

How do I fire it?

Same instructions as Sculpey III.

275 for 15 minutes per 1/4" thickness.

How do I seal it?

Sealing the clay helps hold the surface fragments in place after firing. I use a few layers of mod-podge for small pieces. For larger pieces, I apply UV resin then mod-podge.
