A delicate homage to Michigan’s enduring petroglyphs. This 4×6‑inch wall sculpture is hand‑crafted in clay, subtly tinted with natural earth tones, gently evoking the weathered limestone or sandstone surfaces that bear moss and lichen—like those found at Michigan’s Sanilac Petroglyphs Historic State Park Michigan’s petroglyphs—the largest known Native American carvings in the state—date from 300 to 1,400 years ago. Images such as Ebmodaakowet (the Archer shooting knowledge forward), Migizi Inini (the Eagle Man turned east toward the dawn), and Mishibizhew (the powerful Water Panther) trace spiritual narratives and ancestral wisdom into the stone. Restraint meets texture: this piece renders that quiet connection between moss-softened stone and carved symbolism—modern yet timeless. Details: Size: 4×6 inches (5x7 framed) Materials: Hand-mixed clay with muted iron-oxide pigments Surface inspired by moss-softened limestone/sandstone and ancient glyph textures Ready to hang Why You’ll Love It: A minimalist tribute to rare Great Lakes heritage Earthy, tactile surface reminiscent of mossy rock carvings Ideal for those drawn to subtle, culturally resonant art with organic roots

FAQ

Is this safe for... ?

KIDS: NO.

ANIMALS: NO.

Handle slowly and carefully. There are sharp fragments in this product.

What is the clay made of?

The clay is made with a blend of translucent Sculpey III, iron oxides for pigmentation, and natural pigmented fragments that were hand foraged and processed.

How do I sculpt with it?

Handle slowly and carefully. There are sharp fragments within.

Hand mix the polymer after unpackaging to rewarm the clay and aid in pliability.

To maximize the amount of fragments visible in your piece, roll the clay thin to get the most surface area possible. Use other medium beneath for maximum product use.

Shape your piece normally. Pay careful attention to the surface of your piece. Push the clay around the fragments at the surface of your clay to create the texture you'd like to see.

How do I fire it?

Same instructions as Sculpey III.

275 for 15 minutes per 1/4" thickness.

How do I seal it?

Sealing the clay helps hold the surface fragments in place after firing. I use a few layers of mod-podge for small pieces. For larger pieces, I apply UV resin then mod-podge.
